PBS NewsHour Weekend
PBS NewsHour Weekend
Sun, 10/14/2018 - 6:00pm - 7:00pm
PBS NewHour looks at how the fashion industry is starting to create more options for people with disabilities.
Clothing can be a major barrier to independence for people living with disabilities. While the needs of the community have largely been ignored by the fashion industry, things are starting to change. In 2016, Tommy Hilfiger became the first major fashion designer to launch a line of clothing for people with disabilities. And a program called Open Style Lab at the Parsons School of Design in New York works with a team of designers, engineers and therapists to create clothing and other technologies that are accessible and inclusive. NewsHour Weekend's Megan Thompson reports, Sunday, October 14 at 6 p.m. on WXXI-TV.
This programming is part of Move to Include, a partnership between WXXI and the Golisano Foundation to build a more inclusive community by inspiring and motivating people to embrace different abilities and include all people in every aspect of community life.
