October 8, 2019: Important Notice: WXXI concludes contract support for WXXI ACCES/Finger Lakes Regional Adult Education Network (RAEN)

WXXI Public Broadcasting in Rochester, New York has thoroughly supported the Finger Lakes Regional Adult Education Network (RAEN) for the past fifteen years. It has been our pleasure to do so and we are proud of the years of accomplishments related to professional development and technical assistance provided to the many regional adult education literacy programs.

A significant change in administrative priorities has impacted WXXI’s decision to conclude our contractual support of the Finger Lakes RAEN with the New York State Education Department. We wish all the regional adult education literacy programs good luck in their valuable and successful work with adult students going forward. Until further notice from NYSED we ask that you refer to our neighboring RAEN centers for your professional development needs. In addition, we encourage any program with questions or concerns to refer to the NYSED Upstate Team for assistance:

Workplace Essential Skills: Watch Here

Series Description: For adults who want to get — and keep — good jobs, this adult literacy series may be just the answer. Workplace Essential Skills teaches not just the skills but also the attitudes necessary to succeed at work. Reading, writing, math, communication, and problem solving are presented in workplace contexts. Learners see how to prepare résumés and applications and how to prepare themselves for interviews and for the workplace. Documentary and scripted footage shows what employers look for in new hires and how to fit in and thrive in a new job. This supplementary series for use by classroom, individuals or for integration into an existing program of study.

Series Description:The series offers programs that teach English to speakers of other languages by depicting the lives of six characters, their backgrounds, challenges and their daily struggles and strategies as ESL/ESOL learners.
