WXXI presents a new series that chronicles the craft beer revolution happening across New York State.

Produced by MagicWig Productions, Inc. with support from Empire State Development, Brewed in New York explores multiple breweries in different regions throughout the State. The 13-part series premieres Thursday, July 5 at 8:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV. It repeats on Sundays at 3:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV.

“New York is one of the leading states in craft breweries and WXXI is proud to help showcase that talent and to encourage viewers to explore what New York has to offer,” said Norm Silverstein, President of WXXI.

Craft beer is on the rise across the country, and New York has been near the center of the revolution. With more than 400 breweries across the state, New York is currently ranked fourth in the country for number of craft breweries. But craft beer is not about mass production; it is about passionate locals employing artisan skills to infuse the values of their community into flavorful and memorable brews.

Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Howard Zemsky said, "New York State’s craft beer industry continues to flourish, with breweries opening and expanding statewide that encourage tourism, create jobs and support regional economies."

In each half-hour episode of Brewed in New York, co-hosts Matt Archambault, a craft beer aficionado, and Maya Contreras, an enthusiastic novice, visit several craft breweries in a particular region and learn how the unique geography, agriculture, and character of that region influence each brewery’s individual story and craft. Each episode also features a two-minute “Craft 101” segment using whimsical motion graphics to provide a more in-depth explanation on brewing processes such as fermentation, how water affects beer quality, and what glassware should be used with what type of brew.

WXXI’s premiere episode on July 5th features Rochester’s own Three Heads Brewing, Genesee Brew House and Swiftwater Brewing Company. The series also visits New York City, Albany, the Catskills, the Adirondacks, Chautauqua-Allegheny, and others.
