Flying to the Ends of the Earth
Flying to the Ends of the Earth
Sat, 02/03/2018 - 2:00pm - 3:00pm
Former Royal Marine Arthur Williams travels to the globe’s most remote areas to find out how people establish life in such secluded places.
Flying via prop plane, Williams visits hard to reach destinations, including the islands of the South Pacific, the frozen wastes of Siberia, and Peru's mountains and deserts. Flying to the Ends of the Earth airs Saturdays, February 3-17, 2018 at 2 p.m. on WXXI-World.
In this three-part series, Williams, a former Royal Marine, travels by plane to three secluded areas of the globe. In Episode 1, he flies to the Siberian tundra and faces brutal chills and a dangerous journey over long stretches of ice. Episode 2 takes him to a much warmer climate, the islands of the South Pacific, but he learns that locals are as much at the mercy of the elements as ever, from an active volcano to devastating cyclones. Finally, in Episode 3, Williams crosses the deserts, jungles, and mountains of Peru to meet people living remotely at some of the world’s highest altitudes. Stunning natural views combine with remarkable human connections in this eye-opening travel series.
This program is part of MOVE TO INCLUDE, a project funded by the Golisano Foundation to build a more inclusive community by inspiring and motivating people to embrace different abilities and include all people in every aspect of community life.
