We Are Still Here! (Mir Zaynen Do!) is an exploration of the Holocaust through music and memory.

The internationally acclaimed vocal sextet, The Western Wind, perform songs woven together by a narration that includes survivor memories collected by the noted Holocaust educator Dr. Leatrice Rabinsky. We Are Still Here! airs Monday, April 24, 2017 at 10 a.m. on Classical 91.5.

The program depicts the vibrancy of Jewish life in pre-war Europe, a life soon to be shattered by awful events to come. The ensemble presents songs by witnesses of pogroms; songs by performers whose careers were shattered by the racial laws of the Nazis; music by German composers who were forced into exile; music from Terezin, the “show concentration camp” in Czechoslovakia; and songs that survived the horrors of the death camps. We Are Still Here! ends with songs of the resistance fighters determined to live, and finally a song of hope and redemption for all of humanity.

Since 1969, the internationally acclaimed vocal sextet The Western Wind has devoted itself to the special beauty and variety of a cappella music. The Ensemble’s repertoire reveals its diverse background – from Renaissance motets to Fifties rock ’n’ roll, from medieval carols to Duke Ellington, from complex works by avant-garde composers to the simplest folk melodies.
