Hunting In Wartime

Hunting In Wartime

Fri, 05/26/2017 - 6:00pm - 10:00pm

Ozzie Sheakley, Erin Greenwell, Donald See and Samantha Farinella

The program profiles Tlingit veterans from Hoonah, Alaska who saw combat during the Vietnam War.  Airs Friday May 26, 2017 at 6-7pm & 9-10pm on WXXI-World

The veterans talk about surviving trauma, relating to Vietnamese communities, readjusting to civilian life, and serving a government that systematically oppresses native people. Their stories give an important human face to the combat soldier and show the lasting effects of war on individuals, families and communities.

There are many films out today that profile veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hunting In Wartime has the long-range perspective of how a soldier’s life was affected long after the war ended, giving us a glimpse into what present-day soldiers may confront in the future. The film portrays a stark reality of the human cost of war.

The program will re-air on WXXI-World on

Veterans Connections:

To draw awareness to the issues of local veterans, WXXI and the Little Theatre convened a Veterans Affairs Task Force to identify the most pressing needs and issues facing veterans and their families in the Greater Rochester area and to make recommendations about ways that WXXI/Little programming and outreach can help address those needs.
