Republican and Democratic National Convention Coverage

Mon, 07/18/2016 - 8:00pm - 11:00pm

This July, the PBS NewsHour will combine forces with NPR to co-produce and simulcast coverage of the 2016 Republican National Convention July 18 – 21 in Cleveland and the 2016 Democratic National Convention July 25 – 28 in Philadelphia.

The partnership between PBS NewsHour and NPR, a first time collaboration for the two organizations at the conventions, will make for the smartest coverage to be found on television, radio and digital. Coverage starts at 8pm on WXXI-TV and AM 1370.

WXXI's Capitol Bureau Correspondent Karen DeWitt will also be reporting live from both conventions. You can hear her reports on AM 1370, and at WXXINews.org.

NPR host Rachel Martin will report inside the hall with NewsHour’s Lisa Desjardins and John Yang and NPR’s Sue Davis. Ifill and Woodruff will also be joined by NPR’s Mara Liaisson, Ron Elving and Domenico Montenaro and NewsHour regular contributors including syndicated columnist Mark Shields, New York Times columnist David Brooks and Cook Political Report’s Amy Walter. Gavel to gavel coverage will extend online and on social, to include live streaming of stage speeches and floor interviews.

In addition to NewsHour and NPR’s reporting efforts, several NPR station reporters and their delegations will bring added depth and insight to the joint coverage.

PBS NewsHour’s nightly broadcast throughout the conventions will be anchored on location by Ifill and Woodruff, with Hari Sreenivasan providing additional reporting in Washington.
