Live Online Screening/Chat: The story of why Southeast Asian Americans have some of the lowest high school completion in the U.S.
On Monday, November 10th at 7p ET, WORLD Channel and the Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) is hosting a live online screening and chat of PASS OR FAIL IN CAMBODIA TOWN from the new documentary series AMERICA BY THE NUMBERS with Maria Hinojosa. JOIN THE CONVERSATION: bit.ly/ABTN6_OVEE
The program looks at the dropout rate for Southeast AsianAmericans. Asian Americans are the best-educated and highest-income ethnic group in the United States. They are often referred to as the “model minority,” suggesting that all Asians are successful in school and in life. But Southeast Asian Americans have some of the lowest high school completion rates in the nation. We visit Long Beach, California—the city with America’s largest Cambodian community—to find out why this educational crisis is happening and what people are doing about it.
The series is part of WXXI’s American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen Initiative. For more information go to: http://wxxi.org/grad.
