This is the story of Republic of Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed, who helped rescue his country from decades of despotism.

In The Island President, airing Monday, April 22, 2013 at 10 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 11 and 1011), President Mohamed Nasheed faces his greatest challenge: saving his land and people from ecologic catastrophe. As one of the most low-lying countries in the world, a rise of three feet in sea level would submerge the 1,200 islands of the Maldives, rendering them uninhabitable.
