WXXI's Brenda Tremblay hosts Classical Idol

Brenda Tremblay, Classical 91.5 Morning Host and Producer

Join her for the final round of the Rochester Oratorio Society’s Classical Idol at the Hochstein Performance Hall.

Contestants from around the world find the Rochester Oratorio Society’s Classical Idol competition an ideal stop on the career path in vocal performance, according to event organizer and long-term member Linda Hopkins, of Fairport. “It’s remarkable how much Classical Idol has grown, both in quality and influence, in our six years of presenting it,” Hopkins notes. “This year, we have applicants from across the U.S. and Canada and even one contestant from Tokyo.”

Later this month, some two dozen semi-finalists gather in Rochester to compete. Of these, ten will advance to the final round before a live audience on Saturday evening, March 31, at 7:30 P.M., in the Hochstein Performance Hall. They will perform virtuoso selections from opera, musical theater, art song and oratorio to accompaniment by Jamie Johns, pianist and vocal coach from the Florentine Opera in Milwaukee. Brenda Tremblay, Morning Drive Host/Producer for WXXI Radio, again moderates the proceedings. WXXI Public Broadcasting is a Media Partner for Classical Idol.

Classical Idol vocal competition will take place at  the Hochstein Performance Hall, 50 Plymouth Avenue North, at 7:30 P.M. on March 31. A silent auction to benefit the ROS begins at 6:30 P.M. Tickets are available through the ROS office at (585) 473-2234, from Parkleigh at 215 Park Avenue, or through the ROS web site: www.ROSsings.org. Advance reservations are strongly suggested.
