OnStage "Clearly From Negligence & Cruelty Free"

Sun, 04/08/2012 - 7:00pm

Tune in for Clearly From Negligence and Cruelty Free in this week's all new episode of OnStage.

OnStage, WXXI's original television and radio series that spotlights musical talent from upstate New York, continues its third season with Clearly From Negligence & Cruelty Free on Sunday, April 8 at 7 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11).

Clearly From Negligence

Clearly from Negligence (CFN) was formed in the summer of 2007 by four teenage musicians from the Rochester, NY area at the urging of their guitar teacher at Northfield Music. The group has grown to five and currently focuses on writing and performing their own pop music. They are all stellar musicians – each plays more than one instrument – and their talent continues to shine from local battle of the bands victories to national notoriety, including a ‘Finalist’ selection in NAMM’s 2010 School JamUSA.

Cruelty Free

Cruelty Free promises edgy-Alt-Rock-Pop with hooks that drop your guard and clever lyrics that stimulate your consciousness. Cruelty Free is not about contriving a sound. There are vast influences that may seem to be polar-opposites of each other, such as Depeche Mode, Foo Fighters, Dead Can Dance, Failure, Weezer and Jeff Buckley. The members of Cruelty Free all have years-worth of experience playing, writing, recording and performing. One would think the tendency for such a group would be to use that experience and develop a "formula"...but that is not the case here. Part of what drives the band is choosing to let things happen organically rather than settling for the "flavor-of-the-month" sound. In an industry that is littered with songwriting clinics and music industry "how to" books, it is seemingly too easy to fall into the trap of choosing a sound. Simply put, Cruelty Free is a band that is constantly evolving outside of its boundaries of guitar-driven, alt pop.

OnStage repeats the following Saturday at 12 a.m. on WXXI-TV/HD, and a radio version of the series will begin airing on WRUR-FM 88.5 and WITH-FM 90.1 in February.
