Masterpiece Classic: Birdsong
Masterpiece Classic: Birdsong
Sun, 04/22/2012 - 9:00pm
Enter into the story of lovers torn apart by World War I in this adaptation of Sebastian Faulk’s best-selling novel.
Eddie Redmayne (My Week with Marilyn) and Clémence Poésy (Harry Potter) star as two lovers whose fiery affair precedes the firestorm of World War I, on Birdsong, adapted by screenwriter Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady, Shame) from Sebastian Faulks’ impassioned novel. Like Downton Abbey, also seen on Masterpiece, Birdsong focuses on romance amid the trauma of Britain’s national tragedy of the 20th century: the Great War. Published in 1993, Birdsong has become modern England’s touchstone to this epochal event. Masterpiece Classic's Birdsong airs in two parts Sundays, April 22 and 29 at 9 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11).

This has to be the slowest moving Masterpiece story I have ever seen! I'm in the middle of part one and bored out of my mind. Hardly any dialogue, mostly just staring looks. Plus, a couple of times in the beginning, with english subtitles, the white lettering was over a white background, so I missed half the sentence.
Very disappointing!
Birdsong
I was bored to tears by this. The acting was very weak. Usually I love everything in the Masterpiece Classics series, but this could not hold my interest.
