Sun, 02/26/2012 - 7:00pm

Tune in for Tony Brown & Joe Crookston in this week's all new episode of OnStage.

OnStage, WXXI's original television and radio series that spotlights musical talent from upstate New York, continues its third season with Tony Brown & Joe Crookston on Sunday, February 26 at 7 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11).

Tony Brown

Tony Brown is a singer/songwriter of a different ilk. With influences ranging from classic soul to the Pixies, Brown references all those disparate styles and moods at one time or another to create something completely original. The Black Art is the second independent release from Brown who enlists the help of Grammy winner Malcolm Burn as the record’s producer.

Joe Crookston

If you love a moving song and magical madness, Joe delivers it all....the music, the lyrics, the energy, and the passion for exceptionally well written songs. He loves his audience, and it shows. Joe was chosen as a Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Most-Wanted Artist, and was featured on the Annual Falcon Ridge Preview Tour with Lindsay Mac, Anthony da Costa and Randall Williams.   He was as a finalist in the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest, and received a year-long songwriting grant from the Rockefeller Foundation to travel throughout New York State, interview local residents, and write songs based on his experiences.Whether it’s his hypnotic guitar sound, bubbling banjo, or short story lyrics, his music draws from his urban adventures and his rural roots, exuding a remarkable timeless quality.

OnStage repeats the following Saturday at 12 a.m. on WXXI-TV/HD, and a radio version of the series will begin airing on WRUR-FM 88.5 and WITH-FM 90.1 in February.
