Doc Martin, Season 5
Doc Martin, Season 5

What happens when a gruff physician flees big-city life to work as a general doctor in a sleepy, picturesque English coastline town? The cultures clash and the sparks fly in the fifth season of Doc Martin, airing Thursdays at 9 p.m., beginning October 18 on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11). A catchy, funny comedy-drama mixing elements of classic British sitcoms with sharp medical drama and a quirky, lovable cast of characters, Doc Martinoffers a humorous, hearty glimpse into the culture clash between big-city and small-country living.
Martin Clunes (Men Behaving Badly, Jeeves and Wooster) stars in this acclaimed series. Clune’s brash, brilliant Dr. Martin Ellingham (nicknamed Doc Martin, much to his discontent) was once a renowned London surgeon, until a sudden phobia leaves him paralyzed at the sight of blood. Leaving his old life behind, Ellingham departs for his childhood town of Portwenn in Cornwall, where his terse manner leads to some tense—and hilarious—encounters with the quiet community.
In this fifth season, “Doc Martin” continues to deal with the strange cases and stranger personalities of Portwenn. He deals with the mysterious illnesses and odd events that plague the town, including a hub-cap stealing intruder on a local farm, a culinary showdown during the town's "Fun Day" and a resident whose son may be trying to poison her.

Ever since my 89 year-old dad got me addicted to Doc Martin, I've been counting the days until we see what happens after the birth of Doc's and Louisa's baby. Now I can't wait until next Thursday evening.
Thanks so much for carrying this marvelously quirky English delight.
