The Makepeace Brothers and Mikaela Davis take the stage for an incredible musical event.

OnStage, WXXI's original television and radio series that spotlights musical talent from upstate New York, continues its third season with Makepeace Brothers & Mikaela Davis on Sunday, January 15 at 7 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11).

The four Makepeace Brothers have been called “The Everly Brothers squared” but their catchy harmonies are only part of their appeal.  Aidan, Liam, Finian, and Ciaran Makepeace have gained world-wide attention because their songs move people to think, feel, and dance, with lyrics that are both witty and poignant, and which spread the message embodied in their surname – “make peace”. The Makepeace Brothers band, which has always included longtime friend Conor Gaffney on bass, incorporates various drummers and other accompanists, and their sound has evolved from an acoustic coffeehouse combo into a full-throated stage band.

Harpist and vocalist Mikaela Davis is joined by band members Alex Cote and Alex Patrick to create a unique sound with eclectic instruments. Mikaela has been playing the harp since she was 6, and started writing music when she was 12 years old. She’s currently studying Harp Performance at the Crane School of Music. Alex Cote, who plays drums and bells, is a student at SUNY Purchase. Alex Patrick attends Eastman School of Music and plays the mellotron and mandolin.

Twenty area musicians, who were selected from WXXI’s Band Call – where 125 bands entered submissions to be part of OnStage– join The Lou Gramm Band in this 12-part series. Each episode features two bands, performing their own half-hour sets. Below are the bands selected with airdates for those scheduled in January and February:

WXXI launched OnStage in 2007, when it was awarded a grant from the New York State Music Fund. The New York State Music Fund was created when the New York State Attorney General’s Office resolved investigations against major record companies that had violated state and federal laws prohibiting “pay for play.” The settlement agreement stipulated that funds paid by music businesses would support music education and appreciation for the benefit of New York State residents. The Attorney General’s Office enlisted the services of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, one of the nation’s largest and most experienced philanthropy services, to develop and manage the grant program. The fund is no longer in existence, but thanks to the support of The Genesee Brewing Company, WXXI was able to produce a new season of this examination of Upstate New York music culture fresh and electrifying.
