Globe Trekker Food Hour: Brazil

Thu, 12/08/2011 - 9:00pm

Experience the taste sensations of Brazil with Merrilees Parker!

Merrilees Parker starts her journey in the Afro-influenced coastal city of Salvador, where she cooks a spiny lobster and a fish “moqueca” with a popular TV chef. She next journeys to the rainforest in search of Brazil nuts, exotic fruits and herbal medicines, then heads south to Recife, where Portuguese flavors dominate the cuisine. Merrilees samples “cachaca” (known as Brazil’s answer to rum), celebrates Easter at a spectacular open-air reconstruction of old Jerusalem, enjoys a festive barbecue with the famous gauchos and ends her experience in Rio de Janeiro, where she samples “feijoada,” the national dish. Globe Trekker Food Hour: Brazil airs Thursday, December 8 at 9 p.m. on CREATE (cable 433/DT21.3).

GLOBE TREKKER transports viewers to unforgettable destinations through its stunning photography, rhythmic indigenous music and spirit of adventure. In each episode, one vibrant young traveler ventures off the beaten path to soak up the local culture, sample the cuisine and revel in breathtaking vistas. In keeping with their aim of "living as the locals do," charismatic hosts Ian Wright, Justine Shapiro, Zay Harding, Megan McCormick, Bradley Cooper and others explore everything from big-city landmarks to exotic sights in remote villages.
