The Lyric Opera of Chicago's season continues with their performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Classical 91.5 continues its Saturday afternoon presentation of operas with a whole new season from the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Kicking off the schedule is Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, based on Shakespeare's best-loved comedy, airing Saturday, June 4 at 1 p.m. on Classical 91.5/FM-HD 91.5-1.

Britten's score captures the ethos of an enchanted forest where magical things can and do happen (with a few dark undertones to keep things interesting). Four star-crossed lovers and a troop of bumbling actors find themselves at the mercy of fairies — whose king, Oberon, is in the middle of a major spat with his queen, Tytania. Watch what happens when that charmed love-dust starts flying!

The opera stars David Daniels as Oberon, Anna Christy as Tytania, Peter Rose as Bottom, Erin Wall as Helena, Elizabeth DeShong as Hermia, Shawn Mathey as Lysander and Lucas Meachem as Demetrius.

Lyric Opera of Chicago, founded in 1954, is one of the world's greatest opera companies. It is renowned internationally for its artistic excellence and financial strength. Over the past two decades the company has achieved unparalleled success in its ticket sales, averaging 100% attendance from 1988-2002, and more than 90% attendance since that time. Lyric Opera is also distinguished for having operated in the black for 22 of the past 23 years.

Re. the blurb about the Chicago Lyric Opera's "Midsummer Night's Dream" broadcast for 6/4: it is "OBERON", not "Overon" and Erin WALL, not Hall. Seriously, it doesn't take any more time to do it correctly.
