Live From Hochstein: Gibbs & Main
Live From Hochstein: Gibbs & Main
Wed, 03/23/2011 - 12:10pm - 1:00pm
Gibbs & Main kicks off the 2011 season, and presents the world premier of Classical 91.5's Chris Van Hof's Caravan Tone Poem.
Live from Hochstein kicks off its new season on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 12:10 p.m. with Gibbs & Main. The group, consisting of five professional musicians who are dedicated to performing classical masterpieces side by side with Latin, pop, and contemporary repertoire, will present the world premier of Caravan Tone Poem by Classical 91.5 afternoon host Chris Van Hof.
Founded by Karine Stone and Diego Garcia in 2002, Gibbs & Main often expand beyond their core quintet, performing with winds, pianists, vocalists, narrators, and choirs, including Rochester-based Madrigalia. In addition to playing Van Hof's piece, they will also present Judd Greenstein’s "Elements of Elements", commissioned by Gibbs & Main, along with "Grasshopper Dances" by Cary Ratcliff, with guest artist, Chien Kwan Lin, saxophone.
Live from Hochstein is the longest running live broadcast concert series in Western New York. Held at the Hochstein Performance Hall, 50 North Plymouth Ave. in Rochester, the free lunchtime concerts run from 12:10-12:50 p.m., giving downtown business people, teachers, families, students and friends an opportunity to enjoy classical music during their lunch hour. The concerts air live on Classical 91.5/FM-HD 91.5-1, and repeat that evening at 10:06 p.m.

Dear Anonymous,
Please give us another try. To condemn an entire organization because you didn't enjoy one program produced by them is not fair. I am not ashamed to be associated with Hochstein. In fact, I am proud to be a faculty member there and invite you to tune in to "Live from Hochstein" next week, when I will be singing a program of musically challenging 20th Century American songs by composers Robert Ward and Benton Hess as well as a group of beloved favorites by George Gershwin. My gifted and accomplished accompanist, pianist Andrew Dunlop, is sure to impress even the most critical ear.
Join us, won't you?
Sincerely,
Laura Mayes Schweibacher, DMA Eastman School of Music
Soprano and Hochstein voice faculty member

Thank you for your feedback on Live from Hochstein. We try to work with the school on the selection of artists for their series, and will pass your comments along to the appropriate people.

Seriously!
Does no one screen the performers on "Live From Hochstein?" Today's two singers are pitiful - just pitiful! No sense of tonality, pitch, or rhythm! If this is the best Hochstein can produce, may St. Cecelia have mercy on them. I've supported Hochstein in the past, but no more. I'd be ashamed to be associated with it now.
