The uphill battles of the 10th Mountain Division.

On a freezing winter night in February 1945, the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division accomplished the impossible: they scaled a 2,000-foot cliff in northern Italy to knock the seemingly invincible Germans from their impenetrable perch. THE LAST RIDGE, airing Friday, November 13 at 4 p.m. on WXXI World, recounts the remarkable story of the legendary 10th Mountain Division, whose extraordinary efforts turned the tide for the Allied forces in Italy, revolutionized winter mountain warfare abroad, transformed winter sports and inspired an entire generation of soldiers. Narrated by National Public Radio's Scott Simon and presented by WXXI, the documentary traces the 10th Mountain Division's history: from their uphill battles in World War II to their current campaigns in troubled Afghanistan.

This screening of The Last Ridge is also a part of VETERANS CONNECTIONS programming on WXXI-WORLD. To draw awareness to the issues of local veterans, WXXI and the Little Theatre convened a Veterans Affairs Task Force to identify the most pressing needs and issues facing veterans and their families in the Greater Rochester area and to make recommendations about ways that WXXI/Little programming and outreach can help address those needs.
