Easy Yoga for Arthritis with Peggy Cappy on WXXI-TV

One out of three adults suffers from the pain of arthritis. EASY YOGA FOR ARTHRITIS WITH PEGGY CAPPY airing Sunday, November 28 at 12:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV (DT21.1/cable 11/cable 1011), will encourage these adults — and others — to join the thousands who have made yoga a way of life.

Peggy Cappy, PBS’ favorite yoga instructor, is the catalyst. With 30 years of experience dealing with young and old alike, Cappy shows how the key to dealing with arthritis is exercise, and specifically yoga, because it is both safe and effective.

“EASY YOGA FOR ARTHRITIS is designed to address not only arthritis issues, but all joints which have stiffened with age or become less mobile from injury or inactivity,” says program executive producer Laurie Donnelly. “Peggy is such a talented yoga instructor.”

In this program, viewers meet men and women, young and old alike, whose lives have been dramatically helped by Cappy’s classes. Viewers see her sell-out classes in action — and also learn how Cappy and her fellow classmates have made yoga, meditation and relaxation a vital part of their daily routine.

The companion DVD includes a yoga regimen that Cappy has designed for use at home. She demonstrates movements designed to bring greater mobility and range of motion to the joints. These movements also stretch and strengthen both the muscles and connective tissue that support the joints. For those challenged by arthritis, or even just the stiffness that seems to come with age or injury, this regimen will prove highly effective. The practice of yoga can positively affect all aspects of being: mind, body, emotion and spirit. 

Cappy feels the most important advice she can give all arthritis sufferers is “to set aside time for yourself to do this easy and gentle yoga routine on a daily basis.” She promises that health and happiness can be yours; all you have to do is get started!

Cappy is certified as a yoga teacher by Siddha Yoga Dham in S. Fallsburg, New York, the White Lotus Foundation and Gurudev Siddha Peeth in Ganeshpuri, India. Cappy has also participated in many additional training classes and programs in diverse styles of yoga, including Iyengar, Ashtanga, Anusara and Bikram, as well as in stress reduction with Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and meditation with Thich Nhat Hanh, Swami Muktananda.
