Tony Award-winner Brian Stokes Mitchell joins the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square in a magnificent Christmas celebration featuring some of the season’s most beloved songs.
Christmas with The Mormon Tabernacle Choir Featuring Brian Stokes Mitchell airs Wednesday, December 16 at 8 p.m., with encores Thursday, December 24 at 9 p.m. and Friday, December 25 at 1 p.m. on WXXI-TV (DT21.1/cable1011/cable11).
Dubbed “The Last Leading Man” by The New York Times, Brian Stokes Mitchell has enjoyed a rich and varied career on Broadway, on television and in film, along with appearances in the great American concert halls. His musical versatility has kept him in demand by some of the country’s finest conductors and orchestras. He headlined the Carnegie Hall concert presentation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific with Reba McEntire, which aired on PBS in spring 2006 and was released on DVD and CD.
Among the musical numbers in Christmas with The Mormon Tabernacle Choir Featuring Brian Stokes Mitchell are “Once in Royal David’s City,” “The Christmas Song/A Crazy Christmas List,” “The Friendly Beasts,” “I Saw Three Ships,” “Sleigh Ride,” “Hallelujah” from Messiah, “Longfellow’s Christmas” and “Angels From the Realms of Glory.”
The program also features a reading of “The Christmas Story” by actor Ed Herrmann.
Christmas with The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is an annual holiday concert featuring the renowned Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square, the Bells on Temple Square and dancers from the University of Utah ballet department.
The program was produced in December 2008 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Conference Center. The Conference Center and home for the Tabernacle Choir is a state-of-the-art auditorium that seats 21,000 in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, adjacent to historic Temple Square.
