Engagement Activities and Samples
Since the Greater Rochester Area and the Greater Binghamton Area are two diverse communities, the local engagement and outreach activities that each station designed and implemented were also very unique. WXXI focused the majority of their engagement activities on local educators and caregivers by providing educational workshops focusing on nutrition, fitness and healthy habits. On the other hand, WSKG strategically positioned themselves to develop new and coordinate existing efforts through awareness outreach activities. Below are some sample workshop materials and outreach activities from both stations:
Sample WXXI Outreach & Engagement Resources: WXXI's Family Literacy Health Workshops were designed to strengthen the home-to-school connection and provide educators and families with additional opportunities to engage children in healthy activities and with healthier foods. Participants received training in how to use hands-on activities, lesson plans, booklists, online resources and family literacy kits focused on health and wellness to support their children and students making healthier choices.
