June 2016 programs on Exploring Music

Weeknights at 7:00 p.m.

If you love music that makes films come alive, then tune in the week of June 13th as host Bill McGlaughlin brings us I Lost It At the Movies.  That and more, this month on Exploring Music.  Then, tune in on Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m. to enjoy The Score with Edmund Stone.

Week of June 6, 2016 - Carl Nielsen - A week-long look at the life and music of Danish composer Carl Nielsen, who rose from humble beginnings to become Denmark's greatest composer. We will hear Nielsen's folk tunes, his first symphony, and Danny Kaye singing Wonderful Copenhagen!

Week of June 13, 2016 - I Lost It At the Movies - From swashbuckling pirates, to robotic dogs, to that old sled Rosebud, there's a soundtrack behind every great movie scene, and a story behind every sound. Bill tells about the origins of film music in Paris, sails the high seas with Korngold, and takes a trip to Sherwood Forest. SaintSaens, Mahler, Korngold, and Waxman are featured.

Week of June 20, 2016 - TBA

Week of June 27, 2016 - American Masters, Part 1 - The first week in our series exploring great but lesser-known American composers from 1920s, 30s, and 40s. We’ll focus on the compositions and musical influences of Howard Hanson, Walter Piston, and William Grant Still, plus many more.
