The Rochester Oratorio Society announced a commission this week in celebration of the upcoming 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and other milestones.  The ROS will commission composer Glenn McClure to write a piece including texts, instruments and musical resources from Ghana, West Africa, and Western New York.

You may see less arts coverage in the Democrat and Chronicle. The daily paper’s classical music, jazz and dance reporter and critic, Anna Reguero, is leaving to pursue her doctorate in musicology.  (You can hear our conversation about changes she’s seen in Rochester by clicking here.)  She will not be replaced.  In a city with a widespread affinity for music of all kinds, the decision by Rochester’s daily paper to not hire a new music writer is troubling but not surprising.

Meet the Composer: Chris Van Hof

Get to know another side of WXXI-FM 91.5s afternoon host, Chris Van Hof.  Chris will be making several appearances wearing another of his many hats - that of composer. 

On Wednesday, March 23rd on WXXI's Live from Hochstein, Gibbs & Main will present the world premiere of Caravan Tone Poem by Chris Van Hof, along with other new works.
