Frequent guest conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen returns to lead the CSO in a gorgeous masterpiece from his native Finland, Sibelius’ Four Legends from the Kalevala. This epic lyrical drama includes the profoundly haunting Swan of Tuonela with its unforgettable English horn solo. Critically acclaimed CSO Mead Composer-in-Residence Anna Clyne’s <<rewind<< and BartĂłk’s lurid The Miraculous Mandarin provide an expressive and compelling opening to this program on August 21st.  Other works featured this month include Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture and Ravel's Pavane pour une infante dĂ©funte.
