Monday, January 21
On Inauguration Day, you’ll meet members of the Eastman String Quartet — four very excited musicians who will play for President Barack Obama immediately after his swearing-in ceremony in Washington, D.C. Also, we’ll enjoy CDs featuring the classical luminaries of the 2009 Inauguration: Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman. And “may your dreams be realized;” Cantus sings a song for Martin Luther King, Jr.
Tuesday, January 22 Music by Haydn, Mendelssohn, and Gershwin.
Wednesday, January 23 Wake up to the gentle ticking of the clock, a stroll along the Seine, a battle on the ice. Also, A recent production of La Boheme from London’s Royal Opera House will be shown twice at the Little Theater in the next week. Mona Seghatoleslami shares a look at Puccini’s opera through conversation with Benton Hess -- with nods to pop culture, and through her own experiences.
Thursday, January 24
We start with a song for snow, moths and butterflies, and calm seas for a prosperous voyage. Also, WXXI’s Music Director Julia Figueras talks with RPO guest conductor Yoav Talmi and trombonist Mark Kellogg in advance of their performances of Mozart's Symphony No. 40 and Larsson's Concertino for Trombone.
