See you at the movies!

As with so many things, it all started with a phone call.

Beth Krakower from Cinemedia was checking in with me about CD's she had sent, when she announced that a friend of hers was coming into town to conduct the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.  Perhaps, she suggested, I could talk to him.  As it turned out, Beth's friend is Erik Ochsner, who's here to lead your RPO through the music of Pirates of the Caribbean: the Curse of the Black Pearl. Well, one thing lead to another, and the little reels began turning...

Erik will be here today at 1PM as part of a bigger celebration:  classical music in film.  Soundtracks? Sure.  But there will be so much more: movies about composers, great works that appeared in films (think The King's Speech), even non-cinematic works by composers we hear at the movies all the time.  One of them might even pick up the baton.

So sit back, and enjoy WXXI Goes to the Movies.  You supply the popcorn; we'll do the rest.
