Congratulations to all of our Be More Award winners:

• Sister Christine Wagner, Executive Director of the St. Joseph’s Neighborhood Center, who received the Be More Engaged Award for her work at the Center, providing primary health care to low-income families.

• Thomas Warfield, founder of Peace Art International, was given the Be More Creative Award for his work in utilizing the arts and creativity to build community and foster greater human understanding and world peace.

• Sandy Hasenhauer, Elizabeth Ewell and Kathy LaBue of Mary’s House took home the Be More Enriched Award for their work in helping integrate refugees from Burma, Somalia, Sudan, and Nepal into the Rochester area.

• Hon. John C. Ninfo II received the Be More Informed Award for his work in fighting financial illiteracy through his own project, The Greater Rochester Area Financial Literacy Initiative (GRAFLI).

Part of a nationally recognized program for PBS member stations, WXXI's Be More Awards recoginzes the unsung heroes and heroic efforts of those in our communit ywho share WXXI’s dedication to helping people in the Greater Rochester Area excel.

Be More Award Categories

There are four categories in which you can nominate a person or group:

Be More Engaged: Recognizes an organization or individual who has made a difference in the health of our community, be it a physician, a nurse, an activist, a day care provider, or a health institution.

Be More Creative: Recognizes an organization or individual who is dedicated to arts and culture, and works to expose all individuals to the beauty of the arts and to appreciate and embrace different cultures.

Be More Enriched: Recognizes a person who has dedicated his/her life to education, be it a teacher, a tutor, literacy volunteer, or day care provider.

Be More Informed: Recognizes an individual or organization that is active in working to solve the issues our community faces.
