Juliana Athayde and Nicholas Goluses
Juliana Athayde and Nicholas Goluses
Fri, 07/06/2012 - 1:00pm
Julia Figueras welcomes RPO Concertmaster Juliana Athayde and guitarist Nicholas Goluses. Appointed concertmaster of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra 2005 at age twenty-four, Juliana Athayde became the youngest person to hold the position since the orchestra’s inception in 1922. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Ms. Athayde made her solo debut at the age of 16 performing with the San Francisco Symphony. She has been praised by critics for her “power and precision,” “melting lyricism,” and “larger than life” performances.
One of America's most sought-after guitarists, Nicholas Goluses is Professor of Guitar and director of the guitar programs at the Eastman School of Music, widely recognized as one of the world's premier conservatories and a leading center for guitar study. Nicholas Goluses appears in solo performance, as chamber music player and as soloist with orchestras across North and South America, Europe, Australia and the Far East to critical acclaim. He has just completed a new recording for Albany with violist George Taylor of works for viola and guitar.
Backstage Pass on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 1 p.m. on Classical 91.5/FM-HD 91.5-1.
Mic'ing
The violin sounds like we are hearing the reflections instead of the direct sound. Too bad because it is a great performance and would have made a great recording if mic'ed properly.
