POSITION:                     Director of Human Resources

DIVISION:                     Business Affairs

CLASSIFICATION:         Full-Time, Exempt

REPORTS TO:                 Executive Vice President & General Manager

Position Summary:
The Director of Human Resources, in consultation with the Executive Vice-President & General Manager, directs all activities pertaining to recruitment, staffing, termination, employee recognition, performance management/leadership development, employee relations and compensation. Responsibilities include all staff at WXXI and its affiliated organizations.

Responsibilities Include:

  1. Oversees recruitment activities for all categories of employees in consultation with the department managers and vice-presidents. Ensures EEO/FCC rules are followed and requirements are met. (25% time spent)
  2. Identifies, evaluates, recommends and implements training initiatives, wellness programs, annual award recognition program, employee social events, and recruitment strategies. (20% time spent)
  3. Evaluates and recommends modifications to existing benefits, compensation practices and employment policies and procedures development. (20% time spent)
  4. Provides professional human resource guidance to staff. Present recommendations and suggestions to management for resolving employee issues. (20% time spent)
  5. Shared supervision of Administrative Assistant. (10% time spent)
  6. Carry out special assignments as directed by the Executive Vice-President & General Manager. (5% time spent)

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good motivational, conflict resolution and problem solving skills
  • Strong relationship management skills to work effectively with senior executives
  • Tactful, diplomatic, collaborative demeanor, maintaining confidentiality where appropriate

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field with a minimum of eight years experience in human resources both in a generalist role and in a management level position
