Community Group: Fathers to Go to School with Your Child

(2011-09-19) WXXI News Report

(WXXI) - Fathers in Rochester are being urged to take a day away from work, and take their children to school on Tuesday.

The program sponsored by Action for s Better Community is designed to encourage fathers to become more involved in their children's education, and in their lives outside the classroom.

Loretta Krueger, who directs ABC's Head Start pre-kindergarten program for children from low income families, says it's especially important for children who come from disadvantaged family backgrounds, whether or not the family structure is intact, to recruit parental involvement

Andre Harper, who also serves as a coordinator of the program for A-B-C, says it's also extremely important to re-engage fathers who are no longer living in the same home with their children.
