January 14th and 15th Ken Burn's highly anticipated documentary
about
Mark Twain will air on PBS. The Mark Twain Association of
Rochester
hopes that this event will spark interest in Mark Twain
and is inviting
the public to its monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 22
at 5:30 PM, at
Greenwood Books 123 East Avenue.
Mark Twain was never a stranger to controversy and his
writings are as
relevant today as they were in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Huckleberry
Finn, for example, has been touted as "the worst example
of racist
trash" and "the best anti-racist novel in 19th
Century American
literature".
Please join us in a discussion of Twain's short story "Excerpts
from
Captain Stormfield's Visit to Heaven" This is a delightful
short story
the publication of which even his wife tried to suppress.
The meeting is free and open to the public.
