Acclaimed actor David Tennant (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Jude, Posh Nosh) steps into the famous phone booth in the Doctor Who 1000 Series, airing on WXXI-TV 21 (cable 11) beginning Saturday, May 10 at 11 p.m. Hailed as “the single best piece of family-oriented entertainment BBC has broadcast in its entire history” by The Guardian, the first season of Doctor Who became a phenomenal success with critics and viewers in England and America. Tennant, a lifelong Doctor Who fan, was voted as the best ever Doctor by readers of Doctor Who Magazine. This season, the Doctor, alongside his trusty companion Rose (Billie Piper), set off on another spree of time-shifting intergalactic adventures. The two travel back in time to the Highlands of Scotland to protect Queen Victoria from an evil werewolf, trek to 18th Century France to battle lethal androids that stalk the streets of Versailles, and leap to 1953 to defend Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation from an army of mysterious creatures. In the future, the Doctor and Rose visit the London Olympics of 2012, encounter a race of terrifying cat nurses, and travel to a star on the edge of a black hole to discover a strange and eerie beast. The Daleks and the Cybermen, favorite villains of Doctor Who viewers, return to the series, battling for control of the earth—with humanity hanging in the balance.
Praised as “a triumph of tight writing, wit, good editing and some smashing acting” by The Observer, Doctor Who 1000 Series, is full of thrills, laughs, heartbreak, and supremely scary monsters.
