Dr. WhoThe new special, Doctor Who: Christmas Invasion, airing Saturday, May 3 at 11 p.m. on WXXI-TV 21 (cable 11), falls between the end of the 900 series and the start of the 1000 series, providing an important bridge between seasons and an introduction to the series’ second Doctor (David Tennant). The 1000 series of Doctor Who begins Saturday, May 10 at 11 p.m. on WXXI-TV 21 (cable 11).

Christmas Invasion
picks up right after the end of the first series. Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) shows up unexpectedly at the apartment of her mother, Jackie, in the TARDIS with a strange man in tow—the new Doctor. Still dazed and weak from the regeneration process, the Doctor slips in and out of consciousness as he regains his strength.

As the Doctor recovers, Rose and her boyfriend Mickey (Noel Clarke) head out for a bit of Christmas shopping. As they browse the shelves, the two find themselves under attack by a sinister brass band of masked Santas.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Harriet Jones (Penelope Wilton) has just been informed that the British space probe Guinevere One was hijacked by a monstrous alien race known as the Syrocrax, who are set on taking over the world.

As the Syrocrax invasion begins, Rose desperately tries to revive the doctor. If he cannot regain his strength, all Earth will be lost to the rampaging aliens.

Filled with plenty of intergalactic adventure and humor, Doctor Who: Christmas Invasion is another memorable installment of this classic series.
