Tragic Times, Healing Words Sesame Street Parents Article

Special Edition: Coverage of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Airs Thursday, September 13, 6:00.-6:15a.m. The program repeats on Friday, September 14, 6:00.-6:15a.m.

Assignment: The World, a weekly 15-minute news program targeted at fourth through eighth graders is the nation's longest-running instructional television program. Local broadcast of the program began in 1959; it is now carried by more than 90 public television stations in 22 states. Produced by WXXI-TV, the program presents world and national events in a format that encourages classroom interaction. In addition to a recap of the week's news, each program includes pop quizzes to reinforce what students have watched. Scrambled "Clues in the News" encourages students to follow developing news stories. Issue questions draw thousands of responses from students across the country.
