Rochester's Community News

Corpus Christi

April 9, 1999.

This unique program will profile in-depth- the situation at Corpus Christi and at the New Faith Community.

To our knowledge, no one in this community has taken an entire half hour to explore this complex situation and the issues around it.

Our research revealed a story within a story --- not of two clergymen -- not of polarized positions -- but of personal struggles within congregations and individuals -- and of the complexity of Catholicism and religion in daily life.

We'll have three stories

  • A chronology of events -- what happened that led up to the ouster of the old corpus Christi staff and the formation of the New Community.
  • A look at the New Faith Community -- not the usual way --- but from the perspective of the congregation --- and the struggle between believing in the New community and wanting to still be"Catholic."
  • And we'll take a look at Corpus Christi right now. There are similar struggles there, Matt Cummings explores the new Corpus Christi from the perspective of a family who loved the old Corpus Christi but has stayed -- even though they have sympathy for the issues that led to Father Callan's removal. Matt also Interviews Father Dan McMullin -- the new pastor.
