New
England
It
is the result of a long-distance love affair. This little
touch of Newport, Rhode Island was built by a man from Ohio
who fell in love with Canandaigua Lake on a business trip.
Fate would have it that shortly after completion he would
pass away. For Roger and Caroline Friedlander, who watched
this magnificent home being built, this unfortunate turn
of events would lead to their moving into their dream home.
The attention to detail is evident in the woodwork, wall
coverings, antiques and even the fans of this wonderful
home that continues to bring boats to a standstill.

The
Swartout Family
Many have made Canandaigua their vacation destination. More
are making it their year-round home. More and more original
cottages are disappearing as property values rise. But for
the Swartout family their stone house is just fine the way
it is...step into these doors and you are stepping back
in time. Legend has it that two ladies supervised the construction
of this unique house, deciding which stone and artifact
would go where. Look closely and you can find a question
mark... moose horns...even the teeth of a horse! Others
rebuild or renovate but the Swartouts are perfectly happy
with their little piece of history.
