Augustus Sacket was the Founder of the port town.

Commander Patrick Woolsey and mid-shipman James Fenimore Cooper stopped there.

Madison Barricks: closed 1970.

The town had military importance: Ulysses S. Grant there in 1848. Happ Arnold, Father of the Airforce and first American 5-star general was stationed there.

Military installation turned to private marina.

Shipbuilding to boat repair and restoration.

Small tourist town with summer concerts and places to stroll and relax.
