Community Cinema

Community Cinema  

WXXI is pleased to present Community Cinema, a free monthly screening series that features films from the Emmy Award-winning PBS series Independent Lens. The screenings, held at WXXI's Studios (280 State Street, Rochester, NY), will be followed by lively panel discussions that bring together citizens and organizations to encourage dialogue and action around important and timely social issues. WXXI and Geva Theatre Center present "What's The Price?"

Saturday, March 6 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon
Geva Theatre Center, 75 Woodbury Blvd., Rochester

If you're an Antiques Roadshow fan and you have a treasure you'd like appraised, then you won't want to miss this special event! You can have your favorite treasure appraised by professional appraisers, including College of Collectible Knowledge’s Jack Wanderman and Yvonne Jordan, who are frequent guests on 1370 Connection. All items must be small enough to be carried in to Geva. For a large item, please bring a picture instead of the item. One item per person. Appraisals are free, but reservations are required. This special event is in conjunction with Geva Theatre’s presentation ofThe Price, on the main stage February 23 through March 21, and in spirit of Antiques Roadshow, seen on WXXI-TV Monday nights at 8.

2009-2010 Metropolitan Opera HD Theater

The 2009-2010 Metropolitan Opera HD Theater presentations will include nine operas this season.  We just received confirmation that the Metropolitan Opera HD Theater presentations will be available at Cinemark Tinseltown on Buffalo Road in Rochester.  We are awaiting confirmation of the Regal Eastview presentations.

The Met at the Movies broadcasts will all be at 1:00 p.m. and are as follows:  (note: the radio simulcasts begin in December 2009)

Feb 6, 2010 - Simon Boccanegra by Giuseppe Verdi (repertory)
Mar 27, 2010 - Hamlet by Ambroise Thomas (new production)
May 1, 2010 - Armida by Gioachino Rossini (Met premiere)

Tickets at TINSELTOWN will be $24 for adults; $22 for seniors; $16 for children.  Tickets go on sale August 24th.  Entrance to the theater will be at 11:30 a.m. for all 1:00 p.m. performances.
