Super Why

WXXI Open House

Date: Saturday, September 27

Thank you to everyone for putting on another terrific WXXI Open House! We had a lot of people at the station. It was a very diverse group of visitors, demonstrating how we serve the entire Rochester community. The Engineering Department had a busy day explaining digital television and answering questions about the upcoming conversion. The Education Department entertained perhaps 2,000 children. Fans got to meet our radio hosts (lots of comments about "Simon's Window"). We had health screenings on the fourth floor with Second Opinion, readings for children (WXXI President & CEO Norm Silverstein got to read "Martha Speaks"), demonstrations of our new web site, lots of give-a-ways (thanks to Rowe Photo for the great Digital Television we gave away), live performances, and the list goes on and on. Of course, we couldn't have done it without all the friends and family who helped out with Clifford the Big Red Dog, Curious George and our other PBS "stars." We had Board Members greeting people at the door, tons of volunteers helping out, great snacks, participation from other organizations, like the RPO, live WRUR broadcasts from Studio 280, TV Production control putting kids "on the air," and so many staff working behind the scenes to keep things humming (from the front desk to the fifth floor). So thanks again for another special event that proved the value of WXXI to our community!!! Open House Website
