About: Family Literacy Activities

Family Literacy Activities increase love of reading, curiosity and readiness to learn. They extend WXXI PBS programming and allow children and their parents to turn off the TV and explore interesting activities together.

WXXI Resources:

60 Second Science is a series of one-minute segments featuring age-appropriate science activities created to inspire children and adults to explore the natural world together. The spots model ways for parents and caregivers to encourage children’s growth, self-confidence, problem solving skills and cognitive development through hands-on explorations with familiar materials. The spots air in 56 cities nationally. http://60secondscience.org

Ecological Empowerment: This ecology-based workshop offers the following components: viewing of several popular PBS Kids shows, literacy extensions, hands-on science activities, computer integration, and opportunities to extend children’s learning through participation in local and/or national volunteer programs and events.  Learn More:

Book Activities: WXXI's locally developed collection of Ready To Learn extended activities that tie to specific books and programs. Also use the Bookfinder to explore more books of interest.. Learn More
