Television as we know it is about to change.
On February 17, 2009 free over-the-air television will change from analog to digital. As part of a government mandate, television stations nationwide must switch from the old method of transmitting TV signals known as analog to digital television (DTV). DTV is a more efficient way to broadcast, and it will free up the airwaves for other services. DTV also provides movie-quality pictures and more channels – including more WXXI channels (WXXI-HD, WXXI-World and WXXI-ThinkBright/Create).
In preparation for the digital transition WXXI will host a live call-in show to help educate viewers about DTV. In this program the audience will learn more about the benefits of digital television, who will be effected, and what individuals need to do to prepare. Viewers will also have a chance to call into the station and ask questions. Calls will be taken, during the broadcast, at 585-454-6300 or 800-295-9994. DTV 101: Get the Picture on the Digital Transition airs Monday, November 24 at 8 p.m. on WXXI-TV 21 (cable 11) and WXXI-HD (cable 1011 and DT 21.1).

| Is DTV the same thing as HDTV? |
No. HDTV, or high definition television, is the highest quality form of digital television. Not all DTV is high definition. |
