(50 states X 2 = 100 Senators) Elected for a 6 year term. 435 Representatives The number from each state is determined by population. Elected for a 2 year term. See the US Congressional Web Sites for more information. The US Congress has two houses: The Senate has 100 members, made up of two representatives from each of the 50 states. No matter what the population of the state, they always have 2 senators representing them. The House of Representatives has 435 members from the 50 states. The number of representatives a state has is determined by population. States are guaranteed at least 1 representative to the House.
