JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: ATC Host/News Reporter
DIVISION: Radio/Television
REPORTS TO: News Director
CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, exempt
The ATC Host/News Reporter plays a dual role in the news department, with his/her time split approximately evenly between them. The position is responsible for hosting and localizing WXXI’s flagship afternoon drive program All Things Considered. In addition, this position is responsible for producing balanced and engaging audio, visual, online, and new media news content intended for radio, television, and online audiences.
DUTIES:
- Host local segments of All Things Considered and provide program continuity.
- Write, produce, and deliver local newscasts during All Things Considered.
- Produce in-depth reports, newscast spots, and other news content for radio, television, and the web. Regularly pitch enterprise reporting ideas.
- Conduct regular research to understand issues important to the community, and cultivate diverse sources including under-represented segments of the population.
- Operate audio board and follow program log.
- Participate in station membership drives and various station activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the News Director.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Two to five years on-air experience in news reporting and hosting, preferably in public broadcasting
- Knowledge of production techniques for radio, television, and new media.
- Solid entrepreneurial journalist
- Strong writing and verbal skills essential
- College degree (Journalism preferred)
- Ability to work independently on multiple projects under deadline pressure
